What if we placed 4.5 mL of isotonic saline (0.15 mol NaCl/L) in a glass test tube, six drops of 'Zephirin' (an antiseptic detergent solution) and 0.5 mL of blood suspension. Would you expect this solution to cause haemolysis due to its osmolarity? - Check out a picture of my test tube below if you are unsure But hang on, wasn't this solution isotonic?
