A triple effect evaporator system is to be used to concentrate5% NaOH to 50% NaOH. The feed enters at 60F. Overall heattransfer coefficients of 800, 500 and 300 BTU/hr ft2 F are expectedfor the three effects in the given order. Steam is availableat 125 psia. The temperature at the last effect is 101.7F. BPR1 = 5F , BPR2 = 10F and BPR3 = 70F. The heating areas ofeach effect are to be equal and large enough to produce 10 tons/hrof concentrate. Calculate the area and the steam economy ifthe steam used is 11,184 lbs/hr.
