QUESTION 1 (25 Marks] It is desired to build a packed bed reactor filled with porous spherical catalyst particles of 1.2cm in diameter (pt is 2000 kg/m², effective diffusivity is 2 x 10-6 m-/s) to treat Imºst of feed gas at 336°C and 1 atm to achieve 80% of conversion. The bed porosity and the internal surface area of the catalyst is 0.35 and 327m².g-respectively. The rate constant is 1.35x10-7m².m’s-1 Assuming the reaction is first order reaction and the external diffusion resistances are negligible, a) Analyze whether the reaction is controlled by internal diffusion.
